WHAT WINNING ‘BEST PLACE TO WORK’ AWARD MEANS TO US

L

ast month OrangeDoor attended the prestigious C&IT awards at The Londoner Hotel in Leicester Square. We had a wonderful evening catching up with old friends and celebrating with all the winners and nominees alongside MICE industry leaders.

OrangeDoor was honoured to be shortlisted for 6 awards (!!) and were thrilled to win the ‘Best Place to Work’ award!!  We are especially thrilled given the hard work and focus we have invested in making our business a force for good as part of our journey to becoming a B Corp and having rearticulated our business’s Purpose, Vision and Mission over the last two years. Thank you C&IT for this recognition and of course, thank you to our fabulous OrangeDoor team for making all this possible.

To be recognised by our industry peers is an amazing achievement, but we wanted to take a moment to reflect internally and ask our team what they love most about working for OrangeDoor so we can do more of the good stuff and work harder at the areas of improvement.

  1. The Culture

We had an overwhelming number of staff name the company culture as their number one reason why they love working for OrangeDoor.

Trust, flexibility and genuine care for our employees has nurtured a truly positive working environment. There is much debate on how to develop a supportive and innovative company culture in a working world that has swung wildly towards Virtual and Hybrid ways of working. Our first step has been to update old, and integrate new policies including maternity/paternity policies and new menopause policies, through to a revision of the technology tools we use to collaborate and communicate.

Our people value being treated like adults and receiving fair recognition for all the care and effort put in behind the scenes and at events. We hold quarterly peer nominations for ‘outstanding contribution’ and ‘massive thank you’ award to take stock of the hard work our team put it in time and time again.

Most importantly, our employees trust in the OrangeDoor leadership team to support them during challenging times, whether it’s bringing in extra hands to help meet tight deadlines or stepping in to make tough decisions for the wellbeing of the team. Our team know that they can count on us.

  1. The People

OrangeDoor is blessed with so much talent and it is the outstanding people who make coming to work every day a pleasure. We value each and every one of our employees for their contributions, ideas and individuality – and thankfully they value each other too (phew)!

It’s no secret that the people you work with can impact how much you enjoy your role, so we know how lucky we are to be working together. There is a genuine team spirit within OrangeDoor that would be hard to replicate, we communicate with respect, hold our hands up when we make mistakes and rally around one another when things don’t go to plan. Best of all our team know how to leave the job at the office and enjoy work socials as friends, not colleagues.

Not to toot our own horn but we really know how to pick them!

  1. The Job

So many of our people simply love what they do. You can guarantee working for an events agency means no two days are ever the same, and with the business at such a pivotal time of growth, and an ever-changing marketing landscape, the old adage of ‘there’s only one thing that is certain and that is ‘change’ ‘could never be more true.

OrangeDoor has big ambitions for the future and our employees are excited to come on the journey with us. Whether it’s travelling across the globe, stepping up internally to develop their career or dipping their toe into a new part of the business, there is so much on offer to our team.

Like they say, if you do something you love, you’ll never work a day in your life... we take that one with a pinch of salt, but you know what we mean!

Although the last few years have been turbulent, we used the time to review who, what and why we were, and reconnect our actions and behaviours to our values. The process led to a re-articulation of our DNA to a new depth which kickstarted our sustainability journey, reorganised our recruitment processes, improved our policies and revised our new business targeting strategy to only focus on businesses we would be proud to work with.

By truly embracing and living our values we hoped to make OrangeDoor a business that people would be proud to work for (and with), so for this goal to come to fruition it’s a real ‘pinch me’ moment.
